Lifespan Growth and Development
|Description||Life-Span Growth and Development is a study of social, emotional, cognitive and physical factors and influences of a developing human from conception to death.|
COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Describe the stages of the developing person at different periods of the life span from birth to death.(PSLO 1,2) Measured by course assignments and projects.
2. Discuss the social, political, economic, and cultural forces that affect the development process of the individual.(PSLO 1,2) Measured by course assignments and projects.
3. Identify factors of responsible personal behavior with regard to issues such as sexual activity, substance abuse, marriage and parenting.(PSLO 1,2) Measured by embedded test questions, course assignments and projects.
4. Explain the biosocial, cognitive and psychological influences throughout the lifespan as an ongoing set of processes, involving both continuity and change.(PSLO 1,2) Measured by course assignments and projects.
5. Describe the different developmental perspectives of the major theories of development (i.e. cognitive,learning, humanistic and psychodynamic).(PSLO 1,2) Measured by course assignments and projects.

There are several versions of this textbook. The campus bookstore is selling a looseleaf version which requires a 3-ring binder for around $100.00. You can also rent the textbook for a less expensive option. The important thing is to have access to the 6th edition. There is also a ebook option for accessing the content of the required textbook. The ISBN for the ebook format and access to the ebook is 9781260918755.

GRADING POLICY: Your final course letter grade will be based on an approximate percentage of 1000 total required points as follows:

2. You will be completing exams and quizzes online using the Blackboard course website.

4. All exam, quiz, assignment and project scores will be used in calculating your course grade. No course activity scores or grades will be dropped with the exception of practice activities which will not be included in calculating your final course grade.
5. Late work will receive an automatic score of 1 point. Exceptions to this policy will be handled at the instructor's discretion. All late work requires including a late submission approval statement. Wording for this statement is available from the instructor.
6. All work turned in for credit must be typed using correct grammar and spelling, using complete sentences.
7. Work not following directions provided for each assignment will not be graded and will receive a zero.
8. This course will require turning in all work using the Blackboard course website
9. Plagiarism, written or oral, will result minimally in failure of the assignment (1st offense) and failure of the course (2nd offense).
10. All work turned in for credit must include a complete heading, including student's first and last names, course name (PSYC), course number, course section number and date the work was completed.
11. No drinks are officially allowed in college classrooms. Discuss exceptions with instructor.
12. Attendance or participation in class activity is expected daily and on time.
13. The instructor expects that students will display mature behavior in all course activities. This includes being responsible for your actions and treating your classmates, instructor and yourself with respect at all times. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the classroom or the course.

15. Students should spend a minimum of 3-6 hours per week on this course's assignments and activities.
16. Instructor will not tolerate plagiarism in this class. Any assignment submitted that contains plagiarism will earn an automatic zero. Further action may be taken as determined by the instructor.
17. Each assignment and project in this class has a due date and due time; late assignments will receive an automatic score of 1 point. Discuss exceptions to this policy with the instructor.

20. The instructor will deal with non-compliance of items 1-19 and other situations which may arise on a case by case basis.

ADDITION TO INSTRUCTOR POLICIES FALL 2019
Add 1. Policy for re-submitting documents in your psychology course:
a. Instructor will accept resubmitted documents if the originally submitted document did not display in Blackboard. There will be no late penalty for this type of resubmission as long as student discusses the re-submission with the instructor and includes a late submission statement approval at the beginning of the document. Example of a document that will not display in Blackboard would be one saved in a ?pages? file format, which is the default file format used by Apple devices, such as Mac Books and IPads and tablets.
b. Instructor will not accept a resubmission if the document displayed in Blackboard and the instructor submitted a grade with deficiencies noted, based on the published instructions for the individual document listed on the document listing and individual submission screens in Blackboard.
c. Instructor will accept a resubmission if the instructor deducted points for deficiencies NOT listed in the published instructions. In this situation, student may submit a corrected document that includes corrections for deficiencies that were NOT included in the published instructions.
Instructor policy on accepting documents is as follows:
1.If a document does not display in Blackboard when submitted, students may send the document as an email attachment so I can read and grade the document.
2. If a document does display in Blackboard, the instructor will grade the document accordingly.
3. Submitting a document early in Blackboard that the instructor can open and read does not give students the opportunity to submit a corrected version of the same document at a later time.
4. The instructor created the psychology common assignment to be submitted as a series of 3 drafts and a final version so that section errors in the drafts can be corrected in the final version, based on feedback given on the earlier drafts.
5. If a document does not have a draft version, documents submitted and graded by the instructor retain the grades the instructor assigns to them.
Research has shown a strong positive relationship between attendance, participation and college success.
I strongly recommend regular participation in this course, both mental and physical. Participation will help you succeed in this course.
CAUTION: I will not automatically drop your name from the class roll because you do not participate in class activities.
MAKEUP WORK: Students who do not complete course work because of official college activities may make-up some of those assignment. Student should obtain verification by means of a written message from a college official or sponsor before instructor will accept makeup work.
